Life of Z: Week 1

Hey there!
I hope you are doing well! You could call me the queen of procrastination because I never write, or put it aside… haha well. I just keep getting caught up in my life. My anxiety and always making excuses for myself. Like I just want to live and enjoy.

The other day I posted a photo of myself for World Mental Health Day, because I know there are a lot of people out there who suffer. Quietly, too. I am for sure one of those people. In this photo I captured myself feeling happy. And I try to look at it when I am feeling all anxious and unhappy.

So I wanted to try something new. I am the type of person to try many things in hopes of finding peace with my anxiety and hoping to find happiness along the way. I want to capture my everyday life with a photo. Whether it is of myself or something that makes me smile. I want to be more proactive for myself, to remind myself to be happy and enjoy life.

So here’s my first week, with just few photos.

Overcoming Fears

Hello!
I hope you’re doing well. I can’t believe that June is almost over, summer in SOCAL has been gloomy and honestly, nice. I guess I’m one of those people who thrives in cold weather or cool weather (INSERT SUNGLASSES EMOJI). Haha, just kidding, we are all cool.

So, anxiety has been manageable and luckily enough I really have been feeling great these days. I know I sound repetitive, but it’s a method I use to remind myself that all things in life are doable, manageable. About a year or two ago I remember being so stuck in this dark cloud and found no joy in anything. I was scared to even go out for a while and my anxiety would not let me live. This past month I gave myself doable intentions.

I kept reminding myself to LIVE and enjoy + embrace the things that came along. Sure, there are hundreds of reasons to panic, but I didn’t allow myself to fall victim to my own enemies. So here’s what I did.

I Learned to Swim

I’m one of those adult kids who never learned to swim. Scratch that, I’m one of those adult kids who is was afraid to swim in the water. Something so natural that should instantly kick into gear when you jump in a pool right? I can’t remember exactly when this fear began, but I was at least 13 years old and I really wanted to swim. I was just so afraid. I do remember that a lot of it had to do with my own insecurities and my anxiety telling me I couldn’t do it.

Here’s the thing though, it’s not true. If I truly believed in myself I knew I could over come this fear. And, I did.

As I visited my aunt who has a nice pool in her backyard this past weekend, I glanced over at her pool as I always did when I came to visit. It was as if the pool, the water called for me. Yet, every single time I found an excuse to not get in. Not this time. While part of me still said, “no you can’t swim.” The other half, logical, said, “get in, don’t think about it and just do it.”

I stepped in, feet first, “it’s so cold” I told myself. And then I went all in. I was still in the shallow part of the pool so I can stand up completely. I got used to the temperature and then I started thinking about all the videos and things I’ve read on how to swim. Head up, push myself off the ground, move my legs and arms. Before you know it, I was doing it. I was swimming. I was a little scared naturally, but I kept doing it until I was tired.

Honestly, I know I still need more practice, but I couldn’t be more proud of myself. Sure, it was just learning to swim, but there is such a larger and deeper meaning to all of this. I am at a place where I feel confident in myself. I know I can do things and I’m not afraid to do them. When I felt like I was sinking a little bit, I pushed myself up as I always do when something in life brings me down. This was simply a physical representation of how much of a better place I am at with myself.

I’m not afraid to be me, I’m not afraid of my insecurities. I am capable of anything, just as you and everyone else is. Life will always come with its overbearing, tiresome, and difficult times. Though we must all sought out the good in things. We must let ourselves live. And we may surprise ourselves with things we didn’t already know…..

Why do resolutions fail? My plan to be the best me in the New Year!

Hey friends,
As the new year is slowly, but quickly approaching all I keep thinking about is #NewYearNewMe. It’s so crazy how we begin a brand new year full of hope and resolutions. Yet, we can’t seem to keep up with them.
According to an article on the Business Insider, “80% of people fail to stick to their New Year’s resolutions for longer than six weeks.” Many of them are about trying to obtain healthy exercise habits and being more physically active. Resolutions fail because we make all these unattainable goals for ourselves! We think that just because it’s a new year that we get to restart. Well, we aren’t that wrong. We just need to make these resolutions attainable and realistic!!!!

If you’re anything like me you have been trying for the longest to get fit, eat healthier, and just overall improve your health. But…… You are lacking the most important factor in keeping up with a routine. MOTIVATION!

I told myself at the beginning of the year that I was going to do it! I came into the year with a strong approach and quickly failed… Mainly because I went cold turkey with a lot of the things I ate and I just didn’t have the strong will-power I used too.

I find excuses to not do any exercise and it’s getting to the point where I’m just like yeah no excuse, I’m just lazy. I keep thinking back to when I was 17 years young and I was working out like crazy. I was so focused and motivated, but also, I had all of the time of the world.

Even though I had all the time of the world, I remember that my 17 year old self was up to something. I wasn’t only pushing myself out of my comfortable limit, I was trying to balance my health all together.

Something I remember was literally training yourself to eat better. It was as if I was a newborn baby learning to eat foods that are good for you and I introduced myself to many delicious vegetables and fruits. I always hated the taste of zucchini, onions, and dear goodness I didn’t know what flavor was! My palate was so bland and tasteless.
Training my new taste buds meant that I had to slowly get rid of sugars, bad carbs, and junk food. It was hard, but I did it!

My plan to become healthier:
1. Start getting rid of added sugars, bad carbs, junk food.
2. Create an exercise routine that is achievable and doable.
3. Make exercise fun, think of different ways to incorporate a walk, run, etc.
4. Don’t make yourself feel guilty if you have a cheat snack/meal.
5. Train your taste buds to like REAL food!
6. When you’re feeling lazy, go for a walk, or walk the dogs!

So far, I’m starting a bit early just to get that routine going! I’m trying to cut out sugar and I’m proud of myself because I now enjoy coffee without sugar! I do however add some liquid creamer… I’m working on that though! In the meanwhile, I am learning to eat smaller portions and mindfully enjoy my food. October Intentions

Hello, my friends,

Happy October!!

I hope you’re doing well and enjoying the last bits of summer wherever you are. Here in California summer officially came to an end on September 22 and we welcomed Autumn. I was stoked to welcome the season for many different reasons. Of course, my number one reason is the chilly weather. Although we don’t often get rain in California I very much enjoy the gloomy cold misty days.

Anywho, I wanted to try something different this month and that is 3. Intentions for the month of October. These intentions could be a variety of things baking, cleaning, going someplace, etc… Then I’d like to revisit them at the end of the month and see if I completed them!

October Intentions:

  1. Bake pumpkin spice snickerdoodles
  2. Visit a Halloween Attraction
  3. Practice breaking a bad habit

Now I challenge you to write down at least one intention for the month of October and do it! I’d also like for you to reflect on it and ask yourself if you would have done it if you haven’t urged yourself to do it.

Happy 2018!

Hello Friends!

It’s been a pleasure to share with you my images through my Instagram account! I always find myself making up excuses to not work on my website and blog posts when that’s the most I want to share with you all!

I started my blog over a year ago to try a wheat-free diet that didn’t exactly work out. Simply because I kept making excuses to not do things because I’m afraid of actually doing something…. Sounds silly, but all I want to do is share true experiences with you all.

I started my blog on Squarespace because I was inspired by someone else’s blog and asked them for advice. Though I found it challenging when I was trying to put together what I saw in my mind. I then got busy with school, work, and life as you know it. Eventually, I lost aspiration to continue learning and working on my blog.

Anyway, I have now switched over to WordPress and I’m starting out fresh!

I have a lot of stuff I want to share!
